Our telematic performance will connect two theatre studios, one in Buz\u0103u (Romania) and the other in Murcia (Spain), via video-conferencing and Kinect-controlled animations.<\/p>\n<p>Carmen has gone to work in Murcia, Spain, while her physically disabled husband, George, and their 7-year-old daughter, Betty, have stayed in Buz\u0103u. The play follows the evolution of their relationships throughout 11 years, with the inevitable changes that happen as a result of distance and the confluence of two cultural spaces. The story is based on interviews with migrants in Spain and left-behind families in Romania. Although we have focused on Romanian migrants, their stories aim to be relevant as well for the condition of other migrants within the EU.<\/p>\n<p>There are two separate audiences, one in Spain and the other one in Romania, who witness the story unfolding between actors who are physically present, and actors who are telematically present via video-conferencing and Kinect-controlled avatars. The actors in one space are projected in the other space and are thus able to interact. The performance is bilingual \u2013 in Romanian and Spanish \u2013 and translated via projected surtitles in both countries.
